“Transformers” are becoming a reality! This 3.5-ton creation can transform from “robot mode” to “vehicle mode” and zips around at a whopping 6 miles per hour. However, here is the catch. Archax, the 15-foot ‘Transformers’ type robot, is not just a plaything for bored billionaires. It has a bigger purpose than that. It is actually the brainchild of a 25-year-old Japanese genius, Ryo Yoshida, who is on a mission to merge Japan’s love for animation, games, robots, and cars into one creation. Here is his story.
Archax, The 15-Foot ‘Transformers’ Type Robot
Tsubame Industries, a Tokyo-based start-up, has developed a striking 4.5-meter-tall (14.8-feet) robot called ARCHAX. It is reminiscent of the iconic “Mobile Suit Gundam” from the beloved Japanese animation series. Additionally, this remarkable creation is available for purchase at a price tag of $3 million.
ARCHAX takes its name from the ancient avian dinosaur Archaeopteryx. Moreover, it is equipped with a unique control system. It features cockpit monitors that receive live images from cameras installed on its exterior. These cameras allow the pilot, situated inside the robot’s torso, to manipulate its arms and hands with precision using joysticks, providing an immersive and interactive experience. This fusion of advanced technology and sci-fi aesthetics is sure to capture the imagination of Gundam enthusiasts and robotics aficionados alike.
What Is the Robot Like?
A 3.5-ton robot set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show can operate in two modes: “robot mode” and “vehicle mode”. Additionally, it is capable of traveling at speeds of up to 10 km (6 miles) per hour. The CEO of Tsubame Industries, 25-year-old Ryo Yoshida, aimed to combine Japan’s strengths in animation, games, robots, and automobiles into a single innovative product. Furthermore, Yoshida said: “Japan is very good at animation, games, robots, and automobiles so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one”.
The Plans For Archax The 15-Foot ‘Transformers’ Type Robot
Yoshida’s plans go beyond creating five of these remarkable robots for high-end enthusiasts. He envisions a more extensive role for the robot in fields like disaster relief and the space industry. His journey into manufacturing started at a young age when he learned the art of welding at his grandfather’s ironworks. This early experience laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial endeavors. This naturally, included the establishment of a company that specializes in myoelectric prosthetic hands.
For Yoshida, this robot project represents more than just a unique creation. It is about ensuring that Japan maintains its competitive edge in the realm of manufacturing. By pushing the boundaries of innovation and blending elements from animation, games, robots, and automobiles, he is not only catering to robot fans but also contributing to the advancement of technology and its potential applications in critical sectors.
Yoshida’s vision extends beyond the Japan Mobility Show, aiming to leave a lasting impact on the world of robotics and beyond. And, who knows? Archax might be one of the many robots that can help us save the world in the future! Would you agree?
