What do Dracula, Dorian Grey, and Bryan Johnson have in common? They don’t want to die. For those who don’t know Bryan Johnson, he is a tech billionaire who became famous for his dramatic attempt to reverse his age. He spends 2 million dollars a year on a team of 30 doctors who monitor his progress. His main goal is to get his body the vitality of an 18-year-old, and the results are pretty impressive. But how did he achieve that?
How Did the Idea of Reverse Aging Start?
In his 30, Bryan Johnson was a successful CEO of Braintree, a payment company he bought for around 2 million dollars in 2012. After dealing with some mental and physical health issues due to stress and overwork, he decided to sell the company to PayPal for 800$ and focus on his health instead. This is where the tech billionaire started his journey of reverse aging. His goal is to have the capacity and vitality of an 18-year-old boy. But how does he plan to do that? Will he be able to achieve his goal? What do experts who work on his team of doctors have to say about his progress? That is what we will reveal below.
Bryan Johnson’s Daily Routine
“Project Blueprint” is the reverse aging program that includes strict guidelines for diet, exercise, and sleep. Starting his day at 5 a.m., Bryan Johnson sticks to a regimen of supplements and medications. This includes lycopene for artery and skin health, metformin to prevent bowel polyps, and a combination of turmeric, black pepper, and ginger root for liver enzymes and inflammation reduction. Additionally, he includes zinc to complement his vegan diet and a microdose of lithium for brain health. Following his morning routine, Johnson works out and then consumes a green juice enriched with creatine, cocoa flavanols, collagen peptides, and more.
Foodwise, he follows a strict vegan diet, consuming 1,977 calories per day. Throughout the day, he adjusts his meals based on the latest results from his tests. On a monthly basis, Johnson undergoes an extensive display of medical procedures, examining the outcomes through blood tests, MRIs, ultrasounds, and colonoscopies. Notably, his home has a medical suite for these evaluations.
There is a lot of technology involved in his training and monitoring. In addition to his 1-hour workout, Bryan Johnson uses a sophisticated machine. According to him, this machine subjects his body to the equivalent of 20,000 sit-ups in just half an hour. “What it feels like is, it’s pulling your entire stomach out. It’s like ripping it out,” he explains. But counterintuitively, he claims that he does not feel sore afterward.
Furthermore, Johnson wears glasses that block blue light before bedtime for two hours. He goes to bed at the same time every night, and while sleeping, he is hooked up to a machine that counts the number of nighttime erections. These are just some of the life adjustments he has made to reach his life goal of reverse aging. Now let’s see if this has had any effect at all.
The Outcome: Reduced Biological Age by 5 Years
In an interview with Bloomberg, his team of doctors and trainers stated different opinions on the subject. According to Jeff Toll, the internist who also treats athletes and Hollywood celebrities, “No one is pushing the envelope as much as Bryan.” Does this mean that it’s working? Well, findings suggest he has the heart of a 37-year-old, the skin of a 28-year-old, and the lung capacity and fitness of an 18-year-old. That is enough evidence for Toll to conclude that he has reduced his biological age by five years.
On the other hand, the leading regenerative medicine physician Oliver Zolman, 29, sees things differently. According to him, what Johnson has achieved is to be expected, and nothing remarkable.
But the tech billionaire is not planning to stop. In fact, he is trying to push this so others will get on board. The Rejuvenation Olympics is his way of trying to gather those interested in reverse aging to follow medical research and partake in the competition. He posts his entire course of treatment and test results on his website, so people can see his progress and compare the data. He claims “What I do may sound extreme, but I’m trying to prove that self-harm and decay are not inevitable.”
