Conan O’Brien, the renowned comedian and former late-night host, is set to voice a new character named Smarty Pants in Disney and Pixar’s upcoming film, Toy Story 5.
The announcement was made during Disney’s presentation at the Licensing Expo, highlighting the franchise’s evolution into the digital age.
Introducing Smarty Pants: The Tech Toy Represented by Conan O’Brien
Conan O’Brien’s character, Smarty Pants, is described as a tech-savvy toy, reflecting the film’s theme of “toy meets tech.” This new addition signifies the toys’ challenges in adapting to children’s growing obsession with electronic devices.

Known for his sharp wit and comedic timing, O’Brien brings a unique flair to the character. In a lighthearted Instagram post, he joked about initially wanting to play Woody or Buzz Lightyear but expressed enthusiasm for his role as Smarty Pants, calling it “the best character of them all.”
Returning Favorites and New Faces
Toy Story 5 will see the return of beloved characters Woody and Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively. Joining the cast are Anna Faris and Ernie Hudson, with Hudson taking over the role of Combat Carl.
The film is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, co-directed by McKenna Harris, and produced by Jessica Choi. Stanton, a founding member of Pixar, has been instrumental in shaping the Toy Story series, having contributed as a writer or co-writer to all five films.
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for theatrical release on June 19, 2026. As the franchise ventures into the realm of modern technology, fans eagerly await how the beloved toys will navigate this new digital landscape.
