Cory Monteith’s mother, Ann Marie McGregor, passed away peacefully on June 18 at age 74 in Saskatoon, Canada, after battling an illness. Her death came a little over a month after Cory’s father, Joe Monteith, a Vietnam-era Canadian Armed Forces veteran, died on May 12 at age 75.
Ann and Joe were divorced in 1989 and had complicated ties with Cory during his life, but their nearly simultaneous passing marks a poignant closing chapter.

In her obituary, Ann was described as a person of “strong character” with a passion for gardening and the arts, fond of tending to her acreage and caring for her lovebirds. She is survived by her elder son, Shaun Monteith, who now bears the weight of this compounded loss 12 years after Cory’s untimely death.
Five years after Cory died in 2013 from a heroin and alcohol overdose at age 31, Ann reflected on her grief, telling People:
“My world totally stopped. And I’m a different person than I was before”.
