Ben Affleck definitely can’t seem to catch a break! Every time you hear his name mentioned, one thing will always be for certain, his face will be a relatable sad, or depressed moment we all sympathize with. But, what is really going on behind closed doors? And, why does Ben Affleck seem so sad in every paparazzi shot ever? Seems like we are finally getting an answer as Jennifer Lopez defends Ben Affleck against all his “memes”.
Jennifer Lopez Defends Ben Affleck
At the Golden Globes, Jennifer Lopez took a moment to address the online speculation surrounding Ben Affleck’s well-being. Amidst viral photos of him appearing “bored” or even “sad” at events, Lopez reassured everyone that Affleck was doing fine. On the red carpet, she told Entertainment Tonight that there is no need to worry about Ben. She emphasized that he was in good spirits, happy, present at the event, and also nominated for an award.
She told ET: “Ben is doing alright. You don’t need to worry about Ben, let me just tell you. He is good. He is happy, he is here, he is nominated.”
Jennifer Lopez shared that Ben Affleck, whose film “Air” received two Golden Globe nominations, is unfazed by the discussions surrounding his facial expressions. According to Lopez, Affleck is relaxed and doesn’t comprehend why people are making a fuss about it, simply stating, “I’m chilling.”
What Are the Ben Affleck Memes?
Ben Affleck has been the subject of speculation regarding his facial expressions, particularly his perceived “resting sad face.” The phenomenon dates back to 2016 when the “Sad Affleck” meme emerged from a viral parody video of a press junket interview for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” In 2023, Affleck’s seemingly unimpressed demeanor at the Grammy Awards further fueled the discussion. The discourse on his expressions has extended to various aspects of his life, including routine visits to Dunkin’ Donuts.
Jennifer Lopez Is In on It
Jennifer Lopez has attempted to downplay public commentary on Ben Affleck’s expressions. In February of the previous year, she shared the trailer for Affleck’s film “Air” on Instagram, humorously captioning it with “my husband’s happy face.” Additionally, Lopez is set to release her first album in a decade, titled “This Is Me… Now,” next month.
Accompanying the album is a film that offers an “intimate, fantastical, and narrative-driven” perspective on Lopez’s journey to find love. Notable tracks on the album include “Mad in Love,” “Dear Ben Pt. II,” and “Midnight Train to Vegas,” the latter paying homage to Lopez and Ben Affleck’s wedding in 2022. Lopez recently teased the album’s first single, “Can’t Get Enough,” with a video on Instagram featuring her in a wedding dress alongside Trevor Jackson and Derek Hough. The full single is set to be released on Wednesday.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Relationship
JLo and Ben met at the filming of “Gigli” in 2001. In a March 2003 interview with Vanity Fair, Ben Affleck denied rumors of a romantic relationship with Jennifer Lopez while she was married. Affleck explained that when they initially met, they became close friends, emphasizing that the thought of a romantic relationship didn’t arise because she was married. This situation allowed them to genuinely get to know each other without the usual pretenses of courtship.
Affleck noted that their friendship developed comfortably, and neither of them altered themselves during this period. He expressed a new experience in realizing he could love someone in a way where their happiness mattered more than his own desires, even though the romantic aspect was not feasible.
The Rekindled Love
Jennifer Lopez shared a series of swimsuit photos on Twitter and Instagram, captioned with her height “5 2 … what it do …💗 📸: @lacarba.” The final Instagram photo captured a kiss between Lopez and Ben Affleck. Fans noticed a framed black-and-white image in the background from Affleck’s 2003 Vanity Fair feature. The couple celebrated Lopez’s birthday with a party at L’Opera in St. Tropez, France, where she sang along to “Jenny From the Block,” featuring Affleck in the music video. A video showed a possible recreation of a moment from the music video, sparking speculation about scenes for its upcoming 20th anniversary next year.
