Originally intended as a standalone film, Todd Phillips’ “Joker” received unexpected critical acclaim, prompting Warner Bros. to confirm a sequel in November 2019. Titled “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the sequel will take a musical approach, described as a “jukebox musical.” It will feature recognizable songs performed by the lead characters, Joker and Harley Quinn, with at least 15 covers expected to be included.

The upcoming sequel to “Joker” boasts a larger budget compared to the first installment, indicating high confidence in its success. While the first film’s budget ranged between $55 million to $70 million, the sequel is expected to reach around $200 million. Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly set to receive $20 million to reprise his role as the Joker, while Lady Gaga will earn $12 million for her portrayal of Harley Quinn.
