Who are the women leading the Blue Origin all-female space mission? And what is this mission about?
In a groundbreaking moment for space exploration, Blue Origin is set to launch its first all-female crew into space this spring.
The mission, dubbed NS-31, will feature an extraordinary lineup of trailblazers, including pop icon Katy Perry, veteran journalist Gayle King, and Lauren Sánchez, the fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.
This historic flight marks a significant milestone in space tourism and gender representation in STEM fields.

The six-woman crew is a powerhouse of talent and achievement.
Alongside Perry, King, and Sánchez, the mission will include Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist and CEO of STEMBoard.

Amanda Nguyen, a Nobel Peace Prize-nominated civil rights activist and bioastronautics researcher also made the list.

Kerianne Flynn, who is a film producer known for her work on projects highlighting women’s empowerment, will be part of the crew too.

Lauren Sánchez, who played a key role in organizing the mission, expressed her excitement about leading the team. “I really see this group as explorers and storytellers,” she shared on Instagram. “Each of us is about to be changed by a remarkable view of our beautiful planet.”
For Katy Perry, the journey is deeply personal. “Katy is honored to be a part of Blue Origin’s first all-female crew and hopes her journey encourages her daughter and others to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively,” Blue Origin stated in a press release.

Breaking Barriers and Inspiring Generations
This mission is more than just a spaceflight; it’s a symbol of progress. Amanda Nguyen, who will become the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman astronaut, sees the journey as a bridge for reconciliation and peace.
Meanwhile, Aisha Bowe hopes her story—from community college to space—will inspire young people, especially in the Bahamas, to pursue their dreams in STEM.
Gayle King, co-host of CBS Mornings, admitted she was both terrified and excited about the trip. “It’s like how I felt about to deliver a baby,” she joked.

After consulting with her children and Oprah Winfrey, King decided to embrace the opportunity. She called her fellow crew members “so badass.”
A New Chapter in Space Exploration
The NS-31 mission will be Blue Origin’s 11th human flight and the first all-female crew since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo spaceflight in 1963.

The New Shepard program has already flown 52 people, including celebrities like William Shatner, who described his experience as both awe-inspiring and humbling.
As the countdown begins, the world will be watching this diverse group of women challenge perspectives, share their stories, and inspire future generations to dream bigger.
With no specific launch date announced yet, anticipation is building for what promises to be a historic moment in space exploration.
Stay tuned as Blue Origin prepares to take these six extraordinary women beyond the Kármán line and into the stars.
