Airbnb’s Icons series has featured a variety of creative stays inspired by popular culture, such as Barbie’s Dreamhouse and Shrek’s Swamp. The latest addition to this series draws on Mattel’s extensive toy collection, offering an imaginative experience where guests can stay inside a 90s-era Polly Pocket compact. Moreover, this new installment continues Airbnb’s trend of providing immersive and nostalgic lodging experiences.

Polly Pocket Dolls

Polly Pocket was created by British designer Chris Wiggs in 1983 for his daughter and quickly became popular with children.

Mattel acquired the brand the same year. Additionally, the toy line features dolls, figures, accessories, and vehicles, with the highlight being Polly’s compact home. Airbnb’s latest Icons series offering is inspired by this compact, featuring a stay inside its detailed, colorful interior.

In Littleton, Massachusetts, Polly Pocket’s compact home has been transformed into a 42-foot-tall replica, featuring 90s-themed furniture, clothing, accessories, and food. Moreover, every detail is meticulously crafted, including the pink surroundings and the gummy texture of Polly’s garments.

The Airbnb listing, written in Polly’s voice, invites guests to a nostalgic “Playdate,” complete with a playful message reflecting on the 30-year gap since the original toys.

What Can You Expect?

Similar to Barbie’s Dreamhouse, the life-size compact contrasts with its peaceful green surroundings due to its vibrant exterior and interior. Moreover, the design features predominant pink and purple pastels, accented by colorful elements like yellow rugs, chairs, stairs, and teal appliances such as a TV, fridge, fireplace, and sofa.

Guests at the property have 24-hour access to the life-size Polly Pocket compact. They can enjoy activities like trying on accessories, snacking on retro treats, making friendship bracelets, and watching movies in the lounge. For sleeping, they can choose between a pullout couch or a life-size Action Park Tent located nearby.

Additionally, the Polly Pocket compact can be rented for three one-night stays on September 12-14, 2024, at $89 (£70) per guest. Moreover, for those who miss out on the overnight stays, Airbnb will offer 21 different experiences from September 16 to October 6, 2024, each accommodating up to 12 guests. Booking requests for both stays and experiences can be made from August 21-28.
