In even more recent Matthew Perry news, an interview was brought to light. It shows an important moment following the tragic loss of Matthew Perry. The beloved star of “Friends”, passed away at the age of 54 due to an accidental drowning in his home jacuzzi just a week ago. Not only was Perry renowned for his acting career, but he had also expressed his desire for a Matthew Perry biopic about his life. However, his representative actor choice has left everyone surprised.

The Matthew Perry Biopic

Matthew Perry hoped that Zac Efron would portray his character in a biographical film about his own life. Last year, the actor known for their role in Friends offered the High School Musical star a part in a rom-com. This was after the latter played a younger version of the former’s character in the 2009 movie “17 Again.” However, when approached by the Friends actor to play a 20-years-younger version of himself in the romcom, Zac declined the opportunity. Matthew Perry had confirmed: ‘Well, it was Zac Efron. But he said no. So, we’ve got to find someone who says yes.’

When asked about his ideal choice for the role, Perry confirmed it was Zac Efron but mentioned that Efron declined. That is why they were in search of someone else for the part. A friend of Perry, Athena Crosby, reiterated that he had wanted Efron for the role because he believed Efron had done an excellent job in “17 Again.” Crosby mentioned: ‘(Matthew) wanted Zac Efron, who’s played him already to play him again because he said he did such a good job’.

“17 Again” With Zac Efron Again in the Matthew Perry Biopic

In the movie “17 Again,” Matthew Perry took on the role of Mike. He is a middle-aged husband and father who found himself yearning for the glory days of his high school youth. His life takes a dramatic turn when a fortuitous encounter with a time vortex transports Mike back in time. This effectively turns him into his teenage self, portrayed by Zac Efron. This unique opportunity allowed him to revisit and potentially alter the choices he had made in his youth. Additionally, the plot leads to both comedic and introspective moments.

What About the Female Lead?

Regarding the casting of the female lead in a biopic about Matthew Perry’s life, the Friends actor revealed on SiriusXM that actress Aubrey Plaza, known for her work in “The White Lotus,” came incredibly close to securing the role. Matthew Perry expressed his admiration for Plaza’s talent. He also believed she would have been a perfect fit for the film. This was especially true, given the project’s inclusion of dramatic elements.

The resurfaced news about Matthew Perry comes a week after his unfortunate passing at the age of 54 due to accidental drowning in his home jacuzzi. Matthew, famous for his role as Chandler Bing in the iconic 90s sitcom “Friends,” was discovered dead at his Los Angeles residence on October 28. Emergency responders were called at around 4 p.m. local time.

It was reported that he had engaged in a game of Pickleball. This is a sport similar to tennis but played on a smaller court. After sending his assistant on an errand upon their return, Matthew was found unresponsive in his hot tub. “Friends,” was a beloved series that followed the lives of six friends in their 20s living in New York. It was a global sensation during its original run from 1994 to 2004 and continues to enjoy immense popularity through reruns.

Would you watch a Matthew Perry biopic starring Zac Efron? Or do you think someone else would be a better fit for the role?
