The Try Guys, known for their entertaining and often hilarious videos showcasing their willingness to try anything, have been a beloved presence on the internet for years. Their chemistry and camaraderie have been a major part of their appeal.
Fans of the trio may have noticed a recent shift in the iconic group dynamics. What was once a quartet of daring individuals taking on various challenges and adventures has first transformed into a trio. However, that is turning into a duo now. What could have possibly happened to cause this change?
The Try Guys Will Now Become a Duo
After nearly two years since Ned Fulmer’s departure from The Try Guys amid a cheating scandal, the YouTube sensation is facing another loss as Eugene Lee Yang, one of its members, has decided to leave the group.
In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone on Wednesday, the remaining co-hosts, Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld, revealed that Yang, aged 38, will be departing after the forthcoming season to pursue different creative paths.
Kornfeld explained: “Part of this is bittersweet. We’re gonna miss working with Eugene. He has been one of the true collaborators of both of our lives. But we’ve had a long time to process this.”
What Is Next for The Try Guys?
Keith Habersberger, aged 36, and Zach Kornfeld, aged 33, are now shifting their focus towards expanding their own subscription streaming service, 2nd Try, despite Eugene Lee Yang’s departure from The Try Guys.
Kornfield expressed excitement for Yang’s new endeavors and their own projects, while Habersberger noted that Yang’s exit is a necessary step for the group’s evolution. They see it as a chance for a fresh start and a better-defined conclusion to The Try Guys’ original journey.
How Did They React?
The Try Guys honored Eugene Lee Yang with a shared tribute post on their individual Instagram accounts. The post read:
“Grateful for this ride, our incredible cast, our unbelievably hardworking crew, and most of all YOU for 10 years of support and allowing us to keep trying. We’ve been busting our ass to make 2nd try something truly unforgettable. Here’s to the next chapter, here’s to 2nd try 💙💚💜.”
The Try Guys, founded in 2014 by former BuzzFeed employees Ned Fulmer, Eugene Lee Yang, Keith Habersberger, and Zach Kornfeld, gained initial fame with their debut video trying on women’s underwear. Since then, their YouTube channel has grown to over 8 million subscribers and 2.6 billion views.
What Happened to The Try Guys Before?
In 2022, co-creator and executive producer Ned Fulmer faced controversy when he confessed to infidelity, admitting to cheating on his wife, Ariel Fulmer, with a consensual workplace affair. The couple shares two sons, Wesley (born in 2018) and Finley (born in 2020). Fulmer issued a statement on his Instagram, taking responsibility for his actions and expressing regret for any pain caused, especially to his wife, Ariel, and family. He emphasized refocusing his attention on his marriage and children as his top priority.
Following a formal review, Ned Fulmer was terminated from The Try Guys not long after the affair came to light, which the group discovered in early September 2022. Keith Habersberger addressed the betrayal of trust and workplace violation on their podcast, expressing that such actions would have led to Fulmer’s removal regardless, albeit with less public attention. Zach Kornfeld highlighted the added complexity due to the public nature of the transgression, acknowledging the uncertainty and inevitability of its revelation.
