The question on everyone’s lips: Who will step into the iconic tuxedo as the next James Bond? But also, will Amazon break tradition? That is what we are trying to figure out.
With Amazon MGM Studios now holding the creative reins of the 007 franchise, the decision has taken on a new level of intrigue. After Daniel Craig’s celebrated five-film run as the suave spy, the search for his successor has become a global obsession.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos even took to social media to crowdsource opinions, asking his 6.8 million followers, “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” The stakes are high, and the possibilities are endless.
From Henry Cavill to Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Henry Cavill, the former Superman star, has emerged as a fan favorite. Cavill, who narrowly missed out on the role to Craig back in 2005, has long expressed his desire to play Bond.

Casino Royale director Martin Campbell praised Cavill’s audition as “tremendous,” but at the time, the actor was deemed too young. Now 41, Cavill’s age could ironically work against him, especially if Amazon opts for a younger Bond to lead multiple films.

Other names frequently mentioned include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba. Taylor-Johnson, 34, has been rumored to have already been offered the role, though no official announcement has been made.

Meanwhile, James Norton, known for his role in Happy Valley, has been tipped by bookmakers as a top contender. Norton, 39, recently described the Bond speculation as “weird and bemusing” but also “fun.”
A Younger Bond? Amazon’s Potential Direction
Mark O’Connell, author of Catching Bullets: Memoirs of a Bond Fan, believes Amazon will steer the franchise toward a younger actor, possibly in their early 30s. Names like Paul Mescal (Gladiator 2) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Barbie) have been floated as potential candidates.
O’Connell emphasizes the importance of maintaining the character’s British roots, stating, “I hope they stick with the British DNA and origins of the role.”
However, Amazon’s creative control opens the door to bold choices. Could we see the first non-white Bond or even a female 007? While longtime producer Barbara Broccoli previously stated that Bond should remain male, the new era under Amazon might challenge traditional norms.
Is the Future of the 007 Franchise in Good Hands?

With Amazon at the helm, the Bond universe could expand beyond films. Spin-offs exploring the backstories of beloved characters like Moneypenny or iconic villains like Blofeld are a tantalizing possibility.
However, fans hope Amazon avoids over-saturating the market, as seen with other franchises like Marvel and Star Wars.
Will Amazon stay true to tradition or take 007 in a bold new direction? Only time will tell.
