King Charles III has a new reason to smile! The monarch recently welcomed an adorable friend into the royal family.

Known for his deep love of nature and countryside traditions, the King has taken in a Lagotto Romagnolo—a breed famous for it’s truffle-hunting abilities.

Meet King Charles’ New Loyal Friend

The new pet was a private gift given to His Majesty nearly a month ago, making it his first personal dog since the passing of his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Tigga, in 2002.

Royal insiders say that the King has already formed a strong bond with his new companion, enjoying their time together outdoors.

“His Majesty is absolutely taken with the new addition. His love for dogs has always been evident, and this new companion has already found a special place in his heart,” a palace source revealed.

What makes this breed even more fitting is its historic role in truffle foraging, which aligns perfectly with King Charles’ passion for mushroom hunting. The King has long enjoyed foraging for wild mushrooms, and now he has the perfect companion to join him on these countryside adventures..

What Fascinates the Royal Family?

During a recent visit to a community garden in Wales, Catherine, Princess of Wales, shared that her children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6—are also fascinated by nature. She recalled how they were amazed by a giant puffball mushroom she found, showing that the royal family’s love for foraging is shared across generations.

Although the Lagotto Romagnolo breed originates from Italy, where King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to visit in April, palace insiders confirmed that the new pet is purely a personal gift and not connected to the upcoming tour. During their visit, the royal couple is expected to meet Pope Francis as part of their diplomatic engagements.

What About Queen Camilla’s New Member?

Interestingly, King Charles isn’t the only royal with a new pet! Queen Camilla recently revealed that she has also welcomed a new rescue dog into the royal household.

While visiting a guide dog training center in Canterbury, the Queen shared that she had adopted an eight-week-old mixed-breed puppy named Moley, whose dark fur reminded her of a mole.

Moley was born on December 26 and came from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home—a rescue shelter that Queen Camilla has long supported. The Queen previously adopted her late dogs, Beth and Bluebell, from the same center. Sadly, Beth passed away last year after battling an untreatable tumor, leading the royal couple to consider adding more pets to their family.

During a recent public event, King Charles hinted at their growing love for their pets, expressing his happiness in welcoming another dog into their home.

A Royal Love for Dogs

As the royal household embraces these new furry family members, it’s clear that dogs continue to hold a special place in the monarchy. Whether accompanying King Charles on countryside walks or bringing comfort to Queen Camilla, these pets add joy and warmth to their lives—proving that even a King and Queen can’t resist the love of a loyal companion.
