But, before we dive into that, let us talk about who O’Connor is and what the legacy is that she has left behind.

Who Is Sinéad O’Connor?

Sinéad O’Connor is an Irish singer-songwriter who gained international fame in the late 1980s and 1990s. Her career began with the 1987 release of her debut album, “The Lion and the Cobra.” She gained widespread recognition in 1990 with the release of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” a rendition of Prince’s hit song. The single sold millions of copies globally and earned her Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Music Video. Over the course of her career, O’Connor released 10 albums. Her most recent one was “I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss” in 2014.

Sinéad O’Connor was born on December 8, 1966, in Dublin. She was the third of five children to John, an engineer and lawyer, and Johanna. Enduring a challenging upbringing, she faced mental health struggles throughout her life. At 13, O’Connor ran away to live with her father but was later sent to a Magdalene asylum for “unruly” women after a shoplifting incident. In 1985, following her mother’s death in a car accident, she moved to London. Moreover, O’Connor disclosed her diagnoses of bipolar disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder in 2003. In 2015, she underwent a radical hysterectomy for endometriosis treatment. O’Connor described managing her mental health, likening herself to a “rescue dog” susceptible to triggers. She emphasized the importance of therapy and focusing on activities that bring peace.

Sinéad O’Connor Died at 56. But, What Is the Cause of Death?

The Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor died at the age of 56 due to natural causes. This is according to a statement from the London Inner South Coroner’s Court. Moreover, the court has concluded its involvement in O’Connor’s death. Her family had earlier expressed profound sadness and requested privacy following her passing in July.

Sinéad O’Connor was found “unresponsive” at a London home, and the subsequent statement from the Coroner Court revealed that the death was reported with no medical cause specified. An autopsy was ordered, and the results were expected to take several weeks. Additionally, the decision on whether an inquest would be necessary would be determined after considering the autopsy results and hearing submissions from the family. Authorities, including Scotland Yard, stated that her death was not considered suspicious.
